Introductions

There are a few matters of business that I must clear up with you (as a june bug buzzes at my window screen...EW, what abhorrent creatures). First things first, I would like you to meet Pam, my sassy and wise host and teacher:

She is lovely, is she not? So far, we are getting along famously...
...And now, you must acquaint yourself with FIDDLEHEADS!

The fiddleheads are really quite simple. You boil them up and melt butter over them, and then add salt, and, if you like, vinegar. With this meal Pam also fried up eggs, and served her homemade baked beans. And, of course, the table is always set with Pam's favourite: unpressed napkins. So fancy. We eat such simple food, but it is so fresh and so good. Especially after working outside all day.

In other news:
Tourist Attractions Prove Overrated.
You've heard it here first. Today, being Sunday, was our only day off (although Pam doesn't seem to take any days off). So, I took full advantage of the mountain bike with the fatty tires, and cycled to Hartland to see The World's LARGEST Covered Bridge. Pam and I joke about this often. We drive pass the bridge and I'll say, "Wow, look at that covered bridge," and Pam will respond with, "Yes, it's very long," to which I'll return, "Probably the longest in the world, really. I mean, look at it!" You get the idea.

So I biked there, and since it's extremely narrow I walked through the walking bridge portion. And you know what was on the other side? Two giggling, obnoxious thirteen year old girls. There was nowhere to go and nothing to do. Boo.
Sure, it was kind of neat inside of the bridge...

... and it had a lovely view...

                                                                                                                            ... but it was
                                                                                                                                 boring.

So I biked down the trail that I had gone down the other day, only this time I went farther and I encountered a washed out bit in the road.
You can't really tell from this picture, but it was STEEP.
But it looked so nice on the other side.
So, I did what any girl would do. I climbed on down there and tried to get across . Unfortunately, my bike was a wee bit heavy and awkward to take with me. But see what I found in the crevice between the trail!

This, my friends, is a pretty little waterfall feeding into a babbling brook, feeding into the St. John River. So I crossed the stream to get closer...

Ooooh! The water looks a wee bit chilly!

I removed my sandals...

And away I go!

It wasn't even that cold.

And it was beautiful. And so I was happy, even though I couldn't continue down the trail.

And now that I was close to a pretty little waterfall, I did what any tourist would do, and took some self portriats:

Sometimes, self timer is dfficult

And so one must crouch down like an idiot in order to get in the picture.
Well, it was a lovely day. When I got back from my bicycle excursion Pam and I went to Woodstock to get a few things that Hartland cannot offer and took a scenic Sunday drive. Tomorrow, it wil be back to work. No covered bridges, no stupid self portraits.

Today I will leave you, not with Baby Kitty (she has been quite aloof today) but a nice picture of dandelions growing out of the rock by the waterfall.

Oh how lovely!
I hope you all enjoyed your Sunday's.
